As summer intern, I have been participating in a lot of different activities, starting with our team building event at Cirque Eloize. First off, we took the time to discuss what we wanted to do in order to raise funds for La Fondation des Etoilesand got to know each other better. There were two activities I found particularly relevant: the first was the monocycle, for which we really needed help and support from another person. The second was juggling; we started with two balls then three, which proved to be harder than the instructor made it seem.
I found that both those activities applied to us interns as they made us understand that we are a team and therefore need to remember that we can always provide and ask for help in order to succeed. The juggling is representative of the ability, patience and commitment it takes to manage work, school and your personal life, which is what most of us are trying to achieve during these three summer months and in our future careers. I also appreciated the fact that we were joined by other firm members from all levels, giving us a chance to talk to them outside of the office.
My first mandate was right after our training and I was very nervous at first because I didn`t not know what to expect and felt it would be a bit awkward to work with people I had never met, but I have to admit I was really surprised to see that they weren’t that much older than me and very helpful and patient. I learnt a lot and didn’t feel pressured. I have worked on mandates for two clients now and I’m already much more comfortable, as I feel more prepared and have a clearer vision of what to expect from the profession I chose.
