During my summer internship, I had the opportunity to go to a client site. This experience was very rewarding. I learned a lot about audits and I had the chance to see exactly what it is like to go to a client and understand their operations. The people I worked with were open and available to answer all my questions, knowing it was my first assignment. I was able to perform various transactions and walk-through tests to verify the internal controls.
I was also fortunate enough to participate in an inventory count. I had never seen a real warehouse before and I realized that it was very large and that a company has to be well organized to be able to find all their goods.
After working on those two assignments, I found that what we learn in school is very different from reality and an internship really helps to see what it's like to work in an accounting firm.
