As our program began somewhat earlier this year, all summer students were lucky enough to work on at least one audit mandate – and many were lucky enough to work on several. The first audit I worked on was for a fairly important client for the Firm; I was scheduled to work in their offices for 2 weeks. I was nervous about it at first because I wasn’t sure what to expect, but the people I was fortunate enough to work with and the knowledge I gained made this a truly unique experience for me.
I was part of a team of six people working on site. The work I was assigned was diverse and interesting; my tasks were explained to me very clearly and all of my questions were answered. As I became more familiar with audit procedures, I was given the opportunity to work on various sections of the client’s financial statements.
The work atmosphere was relaxed and I was able to get to know my teammates quite well. There was also a lot of interaction with many of the francophone employees from the client company which allowed me to become more comfortable working in French.
Through this experience, I’ve gained valuable insight into the reality of the profession I am pursuing.
