For every summer student, the ultimate goal of the internship is undoubtedly to take part in an audit mandate. It’s really at this point that we can test our knowledge and especially see if the career choice we made is the right one. Personally, I was both impatient and very nervous about going to a client. I had doubts about my level of knowledge and my experience in the field of accounting. My fears quickly proved to be unfounded! I was very well supervised and my tasks were always clear. I felt useful without necessarily having the impression that major responsibilities rested on my shoulders. My team quickly made me understand that there were no wrong questions. Everyone was understanding. I soon felt at ease, which allowed me to learn quickly and to enjoy my experience.
I think it is difficult to feel ready when you go to a client for the first time because, in a sense, you face the unknown. On the other hand, what is important is to trust your team members. They have indeed all been there and for some it was not that long ago.
