When I started my summer internship at RSM Richter Chamberland, I had a few qualms about the work that I would be doing. I had little experience in accounting and I did not quite know what to expect. After a week of training, I was already sent on my first mandate. I stayed there for four weeks. I think it is safe to say that it was a large client. I met the members of my team for the first time. They had already been there for a week or two. During the first few days, I followed a staff accountant in her work to see how it was done and especially to gradually learn how to do it myself. I thought it was a good way of doing things. At first, I observed how she was doing the work and gradually she passed on the torch.
We all worked in the same room. When I had questions, I could easily ask them and I always felt that I was encouraged to do so. I really learned a lot during this first mandate. Having spent a total of four weeks at the client, I had the opportunity to work in multiple departments. This allowed me to learn more about work methods, but also about audit in general. Although at the beginning I did not exactly know what to do, nor why I was doing it, I rapidly got to understand the how and why.
