As part of my internal training with the transfer pricing group, I got to share an office with Ihor and Irina, two young economists with whom I had a great learning experience. On the very first day that I walked in their office, they warned me about how different their work was compared to other departments. It turned out to be very true. Transfer pricing is a mix of tax, economics, finance and it is a high-paced environment with lots of deadlines to respect.
The team is relatively small and they work on several projects at the same time. As a result, it did not take too long before some of it was delegated to me. Throughout the four weeks I spent with them, every new project assigned to me offered new challenges, new responsibilities, and a different industry to study. I conducted a lot of research using different tools, prepared comparable spreadsheets and assisted them in writing their reports. Still, even though they were very busy, they were always available to answer every question I had and to spend some time with me to explain the big picture of each project they were working on.
It was great to experience a niche service offered by the firm. Ihor, Irina, thank you for all of your patience and trust. I really enjoyed my time with you guys; the challenging work as well as the great laughs!
